Would you ever think that an abandoned shack in the middle of the desert could become such a stunning work of art?
Well, Phillip K. Smith III saw its potential! Phillip, an artist and architect, wanted to create an art piece that captured the quiet and slow-moving pace of Joshua Tree National Park’s desert landscape. He achieved this transparent, reflective effect by removing every other weathered board and replacing it with a strip of mirror. He also placed LED panes in the window frame.
This stunning optical illusion — entitled “Lucid Stead” — has attracted visitors from all over the country. Originally intended to be a two-day exhibit, Lucid Stead quickly exploded in popularity and interest.
I can barely believe my eyes! Isn’t it gorgeous?
